Made by a high end furniture craft man/business called Milton Homer. He was based out of Las Vegas and that is where his gallery/store were. He is now deceased. I paid $7,000 for the set thirty years ago. It is in very good condition and I am having a local fine furniture restoration company repair some scratches on the desk and one small water mark on the file cabinet.
Desk is 68" long x 34" wide. File cabinet is 42" long by 23.5" wide
Hi Gene,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
Milton Homer Fine Furniture is a well-known business but not much is known about the man, though I was able to find his 2019 obituary, which read, in part:
"Milton was born in Independence, Missouri on May 26,1934 to George Emmett Homer and Queenie Mae Mills Digby. Milton will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 62 years June ten Hoeve Homer and their children Jill (Greg)Thomson and Jennifer (Mit) Ebeling and their 5 grandchildren Corbin, Tate, and Avery Thomson, Courtney and Elder Chase Ebeling (Santiago Chile East Mission) who were the joys of his life and his favorite dog Hurley. Milton graduated from the San Francisco College of Mortuary Science. He worked at Larkin Mortuary in Salt Lake City as an embalmer and funeral director. It was there that he met his wife June who worked next door. Milton found great joy in buying and remodeling homes. His talents and creativity were poured into every home they lived in. This passion led him to open fine home furniture stores in Salt Lake City, St. George, and Las Vegas. He loved to shop, ski, boat, entertain, cook, bake and eat anything sweet. He enjoyed cheering on his grandchildren and attended many of their games. Milton was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints."
While examples of his furniture do not often come up at auction, when comparable ones do, they sell for less than what they were retailed for. In the case of this desk and filing cabinet, the set is now worth -at auction - $2,500-3,500.
Based on the photos and information provided, and subject to examination, this is:
