10x12" detailed oil of native on mountain peak. 1830-1890
No provenance
This is an antique, later 19th century, Victorian era, original oil on canvas painting, measuring 10" x 12", sans frame with featuring a Native American theme. The picture features a male Native American Indian warrior or scout who is standing atop a high vantage point outcropping while waving a blanket to possibly send signals to a tribal band or village. He wears the various symbols of his status and the buffalo skull seems to indicate that this is his assigned outpost. The painting would date more towards that end of the 19th century than the assumed dating of 1830. It is not signed and not in the manner of Pennsylvania Indian-genre painter George Gatlin (1796 - 1872) whose work is more primitive and folk art in manner. Paintings depicting the expansion of the American West in the period coined Manifest Destiny are a popular fine art collector niche. This painting is unattributed and done in a naive, non-academic manner. The estimate is based on actual recent past recorded auction sales of comparables. Retail 'asking prices' can be higher and vary.

Please add some clear, in-focus, well-lit extreme close-up images of the lower right corner beneath the plant where there is darker paint. There appears to be a possible signature in that area beneath the plant.
