Thank you for submitting your item for appraisal. This appears to be an oil on artist board painting depicting a desert in one of the southern States, most likely near El Paso. The painting is signed lower left "E.Moffett".
The artist you suggestet -Ross E. Moffett (1888-1971) - only signed his paintings "Ross E.Moffet" very early in his carreer. His later paintings are signed either "Ross Moffett" or simply "Moffett". He was married to Dorothy Lake Gregory. These biographical dates (and of course his style) and the fact that he spent most of his life in the northern States of the USA make it very unlikely that this is the artist we should try to identify. I assume it is more likely that the painting in your possession was painted by Elene Moffett (Brooks) Corder (1897-1964).
Unfortunately none of her paintings were sold or offered at auction. The estimate is based on similar paintings by lesser known artists sold at auction
