Mother of pearl horses 3D shell on black lacquer
Unknown
Thank you. This is a Chinese lacquer plaque with mother of pearl decoration and gilt accents. It could be lacquered wood or plastic. It was very likely made in the 20th century. Pieces like these vary in price based on craftsmanship and other factors like age, size, materials and provenance. Below are links to some examples of sales of similar items with hammer prices to give you an idea of the market. My appraisal is based on these.

I found 1 more relevant and similar in size and materials and look for over $5000.00 none of these are similar to mine they are much smaller and some only use mother of pearl paint, mine is made of the actual shells
I have added a picture of one that I found to be very similar to mine
There is always a range of prices. The craftsmanship on the higher priced ones are generally more exacting than on yours though. Even though yours has the raised larger pieces, this is not necessarily a sign of value. More level surfaces are generally reflective of higher level work. Looking at the horse faces in particular, the artist's style is not very skilled. You are right that many of my examples are smaller sized, but I still hold to my original estimate on this one. It reflects the majority of sales. As I mentioned with the kang table though, it always depends on the buyer, so it is possible to get a higher price.
Ok thankyou :)
