Painting signed Joost, possibly early J.C.Joost was found in a storage locker auction with WW2 memorabilia and Eastern Europe currency.
I found a painting on ebay with same signature that was thought to be a early piece by J.C.Joost
Dear Matthew,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
The presented object appears to be a small to mid-size painting made in oil or acrylic paint on canvas with unknown measurements. The painting depicts a landscape with a mountainside in the background. The main mountain reminds generally a bit of the famous Matterhorn in the Alps. The painting is signed with the name "Joost". Sadly there is no additional information for this highly probable German artist. This painting was made in the middle or second half of the 20th century.
Works by this artist were recently not offered and sold on the international auction market.
This piece is in good condition and there is no serious damage visible in the images provided.
A fair market estimation would be between 200 to 400 USD.
This estimate is based on actual recent past recorded auction sales of comparable items. Retail "asking prices" can be higher and may vary.
With kind regards,
Georg
Dear Mathew,
Thank you for your email. Sadly there are often objects with overpriced asking prices on eBay. The dating of this painting is not correct as we can see at the quality of the canvas and the writing with a felt-cap pen. I hope this answered all your questions and don't hesitate if you have more.
With kind regards,
Georg
