7 piece set of Murano glass that I purchased there in 1986. No chips or other damage.
Hi Sharon,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
The appeal of wine decanters and matching glass sets sits at the intersection of function, ritual, and aesthetics.
First, there’s the practical side. A wine decanter helps aerate wine, softening tannins and opening up aromas—especially for younger reds. It can also separate sediment in older bottles. The right wine glass shape further enhances aroma and taste, so a coordinated set isn’t just decorative—it’s tuned for the experience.
But just as important is the ritual. Pouring wine into a decanter slows things down and turns drinking into an occasion. It signals care, whether you’re hosting guests or just elevating a quiet evening.
Finally, there’s visual appeal. Decanters often have sculptural forms, and matching glasses create a sense of cohesion and sophistication on the table. For many people, they’re as much about ambiance and personal style as they are about the wine itself.
C.I.V.A.M. Vetreria Artistici is a Murano glass shop and furnace located in Venice, Italy, offering handmade art glass, sculptures, and chandeliers. Known for a welcoming, low-pressure atmosphere, it is highly rated for shopping and often provides shipping for its delicate, handmade pieces.
I'm not sure how much you paid for this but I would not be surprised to hear the retail price for this was three or even four figures. In the secondary market, however, this set has a lower fair market (auction, or secondary market compared to the primary retail market) and other Murano-made decanter sets, of similar sizes and colors by this and other makers, typically sell at auction for between $200 and $400.
Please let us know if you have additional items to appraise, or questions/concerns, and thank you again for using Mearto.
