Hand carved music cabinet with Victorian woman
From my great aunt
Thank you for submitting your item for appraisal. This appears to be an art nouveau era music cabinet for sheet music or shellac records. These small cabinets could be ordered from a catalogue, the outlines of the design had already been printed on the wood. The folk art artist or artisan used a soldering iron to draw along these lines. The design of the door follows popular designs by Alfons Mucha, a czech artist of the art nouveau era. The german suppliers of these pre-fabricated furniture items usually used brazilian wood with a very fine grain. The estimate is based on similar items offered or sold at auction. "Asking prices" in the trade can be higher and vary. There is no measurement for the sentimental value you might attach to it.
