musket bayonet with its original leather scabbard
Canada
Thank you for submitting your item for appraisal. This appears to be an angular socket bayonet for the 1853 Enfield musket. The bayonet had a locking ring based on previous french designs, a triangular tapered blade. The original brass mounted leather scabbard is quite rare today, but unfortunately the tip is missing. This type of bayonet was in production for 20 years. Bayonets of this type are offered and sold at auction, without the leather scabbard selling often for less than 50 USD. I hope you found the information provided helpful to you.
