She is 16" tall. Extended arms measure 12" from tip or one to the other. Has bead work of the bodice of the top and earrings. Skirt and top are separate pieces. Skirt has 2 layers with small stain. Top layer colors of the skirt are golden yellow and red with black band seperating the colors. Under layer is pink and gray stripe with black band separating the colors. Material appears to be cotton. Top is a velvet type material and black. Head is oval shaped with head black scarf. Face is hand drawn and has a small worn spot. The body is cloth.
It belonged to a friend of mine whose parents were avid travelers throughout Europe and the US and collectors in the 1930s and 40s. Went several times to the Southwest.
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
It is a beautiful native doll. Such vintage toys are being offered at auction on a regular basis.
The look and design of the doll is very charming. The materials and way the doll was made is typical of native made toys and other objects of art. It is primitive but with a very charming touch and feel. The doll appears to be in good condition with only minor signs of wear and use. As for the age of the doll I agree that it was made in the 1930s-1940s. As it is handmade by natives there are no labels or other tags indicating where and by whom it was made.
The estimate provided is for a well-advertised specialised online native toys auction, where I believe the doll has the best chance of realising its fullest potential. However, there is no measurement for the sentimental value you might attach to the charming doll. Retail "asking prices" can be higher and vary.
