Japanese painting on rice paper size 500 mm x 500 mm

Dear Jean-Claude,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
The presented object appears to be two gouaches or mixed-media drawing on paper with measurements of 50 x 50 cm. The artwork depicts a woman in a reflecting position with a bow and arrows and a bare-breasted dancer. The structure of the abstraction of the areas of these artworks, the motifs, and decor is connected to South East Asian art like Batik. Dance poses especially bare-breasted are connected to Balinese temple dances. These two artworks were made by a European artist under the impression and in dialogue with this influence probably in the 1980s or 1990s.
Works by this artist were recently not offered and sold on the international auction market.
These pieces are in good condition and there is no serious damage visible in the images provided.
A fair market estimation would be between 60 to 120 USD for each piece.
This estimate is based on actual recent past recorded auction sales of comparable items. Retail "asking prices" can be higher and may vary.
With kind regards,
George
