Hi Finley,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
Noritake was one of the most popular names for dinnerware in the mid 20th Century; not only was it handsome and serviceable but it was also comparatively affordable. Increasingly few people today, however, entertain in such a formal way and the market is saturated with services of varying sizes, colors, etc. Because there is less demand than supply, fair-market / auction prices for Noritake remain low, typically bringing $4-8 PER PIECE.
Based on the photos and information provided, and subject to examination, this is:
A vintage 97-piece Noritake parcel gilt porcelain part dinner service
In the Cereus pattern, made in Japan, bearing the Morimura backstamp in use from 1933, comprising:
(8) dinner plates
(8) salad plates
(8) dessert plates
(12) tea cups with (12) saucers
(1) gravy boat
(1) 9-inch covered dish
CONDITION: This service appears to be in good condition; value assumes no chips, breaks, repairs or losses.
PROVENANCE: Inherited
$400-800 for the set*
*represents a fair-market value for auction purposes; retail or asking price may vary.
Please let us know if you have additional items to appraise, or questions/concerns, and thank you again for using Mearto.

There is (1) gravy boat and (1) ~9" covered dish. There are 3 - 4 extra tea cups, saucers and plates of all sizes. My guess is this was a 12 piece set with some missing. We had it displayed in 8s.
There are a total of 97 pieces.
Thank you,
James
Hi James,
Thanks for the total piece count, which has helped me value this but I'm still not sure the piece count is accurate so this appraisal is conditional, which I will update with a more specific tally.
Thanks,
Delia
Hello Delia,
