8 dinner plates, 8 salad plates, 8 dessert plates in excellent condition. Pattern unknown. They have the M stamp with Japan written underneath
Inherited from a friend. It belonged to her mother who received it as a gift from her husband who served in WW II and bought it while in Japan and had it shipped to her. They are all deceased so I have no one to tell me more of the story
Hi Sherri,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
Noritake made hundreds if not thousands of patterns; unless the pieces are marked with a pattern name or number it's almost impossible to identify the pattern name. I would also say that that mark - with the Morimura "M" - is atypical in that most pieces say "handpainted" or "Made in Japan"... they almost never say simply JAPAN.
Based on the photos and information provided, and subject to examination, this is:
A vintage 24-piece Noritake parcel gilt (hand-painted) porcelain part dinner service
Made in Japan, bearing the Morimura "M" mark, late 1940s
unattributed pattern featuring foliate swags on a white ground, with a scalloped border.
Comprising:
8 dinner plates
8 salad plates
8 dessert plates
CONDITION: client represents these to be in excellent condition
PROVENANCE: inherited
