What does this mean?

Hello James,

I’m very glad that you chose Mearto for your online appraisal,

Considering the photographs, overall pattern, porcelain quality and the mark, I concluded that this is a beautiful Noritake Porcelain dinner and tea set produced between 1947-1952. Many marks of Noritake was used during a long period of time but there are some specific marks such as your piece's mark which were used for a very short period and are rare. Your pieces mark says "Nippon Toki Kaisha" which means "Japan Pottery Company". Noritake seems to have used 3 similar marks, one stating "Occupied Japan", one "Made in Japan", and one "Nippon Toki Kaisha" as yours. The maark has a "Komaru" symbol on it, which is a Japanese Tribe symbol meant as a representation of "Overcoming Troubles".

Both dinner and the tea set is for 12 people. Total number of pieces can reach 70-80 in a set like this. All pieces appear to be decorated with white lilies, which creates a very harmonious and elegant design. I belive this pattern might be one of the most elegant and at the same time simply decorated pattern Noritake ever produced. All motifs are printed on the pieces, no sign of hand painting.

Printed on porcelain.

Pieces: 70 to 80 pieces in total.

Condition: Appear to be in perfect condition.

Provenance: Inherited from the customer's mother.

Heavily decorated by floral(Lilies) design.

500-700$.

Please don’t hesitate to reach us again for more online appraisals on your precious items, thank you for choosing Mearto.
