Canvas art
Germany
This is a vintage, 20th century, framed color printed reproduction of a 17th century painting by Dutch Golden Age Master painter, Johannes Vermeer (1632-1675) that is known as 'Woman with a Water Jug' that was completed in 1662. The one and only original is oil on canvas, measures 18" x 16", and is in the permanent collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC. This was the first Vermeer painting to enter an American Museum collection. The character is not a nun, she is Dutch and wearing traditional 17th century garb worn in the Netherlands. It was common throughout the 20th century for publishers to print images of paintings and sell them as decorative wall art through decorator, furniture and framing shops. This appears to have a fair amount of surface grime. The dimensions of this were not stated. The estimate is based on actual recent past recorded auction sales of comparables. Retail 'asking prices' can be higher and vary.
You are very welcome and my pleasure to be of help to you here.
Great info! Thanks so much for this. It’s been in the house for over 60 years and always wondered what it was.
