Probably oak, pressed backing, fiber seat

Hi Maxim,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry and Happy Memorial Day.
Are these photographs of the same chair? The color difference between the one in what looks to be a workshop is quite a bit lighter than the one next to the stove, and also the leather seat cover does not have the brass tacks...did you refinish this chair?
If you'd like this appraisal to include dimensions, please forward - at your convenience - the overall height of the back, the width of the outside of the arms, and the length of the rockers, in inches
Thanks to confirm!
Delia
Hi Maxim,
This is a Colonial Revival style rocking armchair; the Colonial Revival was a popular design trend established in the late 19th century (beginning in 1876, when American celebrated its 100th birthday) and continued until after World War I. There were MANY companies making this kind of furniture in this style - it would be nearly impossible to attribute it to a particular maker.
I can't tell what the wood is but if you know what it is please let me know and I'll update this appraisal. I have said "walnut" as a placeholder because that was a common wood for these chairs.
In its pre-restored condition, it would have been worth $25-50; you did a great job and while restoring furniture rarely improves the value, in this case I would say that it is now worth - at auction - $75-125, and would be catalogued as:
A vintage Colonial Revival style carved and turned (walnut?) rocking armchair
probably early 20th Century
38 inches high overall; width 25 inches across arms; 34 inches length of rockers
CONDITION: restored and refinished with a new seat cover
$75-125*
*represents a fair-market value for auction purposes; retail or asking price may vary.
Height from floor to top of back 38 inches; height from seat to top of back 26 inches; width of arms 25 inches; length of rockers 34 inches. This is the same chair. It was very beat up and broken; I disassembled it, stripped it, reassembled it and refinished it. It has a new fiber seat. It was previously unusable, so I decided to redo it. Would you have any ideas about the company that made it, the style name, and its approximate age? Thank you.
