Hi Margaret,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
Desks like this, which feature drawers (and false drawers) and bookshelves built into the base, were originally made in England, in the late 18th Century, during the reign of George III. While this was made in the 20th Century, it's still called Georgian (style) to honor its origins.
Most of these *are* marked (by label, brand etc) with the maker's name - so if you see one please let me know as it may make a difference in value.
Based on the photos and information provided, and subject to examination, this is:
A Georgian style oval mahogany pedestal desk and bookcase
unattributed maker, probably mid 20th Century
Of oval section, the top with inset embossed leather, the frame fitted with short and false drawers, and a bookshelf, on a shaped box base. Presumably unsigned.
Height: 27 inches; width: 44 inches; depth: 27 inches
CONDITION: With minor wear commensurate to age and use.
PROVENANCE: Inherited
$400-600*
