This is a scalloped dish, vertical alignment. The edges lined with broken garland of leaves in green, orange, yellow and blue. The boy stands in profile wearing a Brown hat with orange band. Hair is dark, shoulder length. His jacket is blue trimmed in orange and the shirt beneath is green. His knickers are blouses with stripes, the stockings are orange. His shoes are black and he walks on a strip of green with yellow and orange streaks. In his right hand he holds a branch of green with leaves. Above his head, off center are the words Le Croosie
My great uncle was employed by a German general, they occupied a French castle. He sent the plate back to family in Kassel.
Good afternoon, Barbara,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
I suspect there is a maker's mark on the underside of the this dish, which the plate holder is obscuring. Could you possibly check and take a photo (taking the plate holder off carefully)? OR at least a photograph through the plate holder so I can at least confirm who I think made this?
ALSO, I need the sizes as some of these were made in different sizes, which can impact the value.
Thanks so much!
Delia
Thanks very much, Barbara,
This is in the style of Henriot Quimper French faience but it is generally accepted that pieces made in the factory were marked so this may be a reproduction. It's quite attractive and certainly has value on its decorative merit.
Based on the photographs and information provided, and subject to examination, this is:
A Henriot Quimper faience style dish
French, probably 19th Century
The elongated dish with scalloped sides, the interior marked "Le Croisic" and depicting a gentleman; underside unmarked
approximately 9 inches tall
CONDITION: not examined in person; appears to be in good condition commensurate with age
PROVENANCE: acquired in France in the early 20th Century, thence by descent
$75-125*
