Two Large vintage "Indian clubs" black with red band and shaped handles. Don't know anything about provenance. One has the wrapping just below handle a bit loose. One has a small crack in the middle area. They are quite heavy and large for such clubs - 26" long and weighing 6 pounds.

Hi David,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
"Indian clubs," or "meels" are wooden exercise tools resembling elongated bowling pins, traditionally used for strength and agility training. Originating in India, they were popularized in Europe and North America during the 19th and early 20th centuries, particularly in the Victorian era. These clubs were used in physical education programs, military training, and fitness routines. Their popularity declined in the mid-20th century but has seen a resurgence in recent years due to interest in historical fitness practices.
When Indian Clubs are sold at auction, they are usually sold in a large and often mismatched group, so though you just have two, it's nice that they are a matched pair in both size, weight and color; regardless of size, these typically sell for $30-50 EACH if they are unsigned or if the maker is otherwise unidentified.
Despite the small crack at the top of one of these, the fact that they are a matched identical pair warrants a higher value, of $80-120 for the pair.
If you identify a maker's name please let me know so I can update this appraisal, and re-evaluate if necessary.
