What does this mean?

Dear Jonathan,

Thanks for the additional pictures. Your pagoda bookends are made in Japan in late Meiji period. I would date them around 1900.They have a good patin and are well casted. I believe the bookends are made for export to USA or Europa to made the demand for art from Japan in general. I believe if the bookends came to a specialized sale they could make a price around the estimate I stated above.
