These ceramic vases are 12 3/4 inches high and 8 inches wide, handle to handle. Having belonged to my great grandmother, they're quite old. I can't read the marks on the bottom, which lead me to believe that they may be Japanese or Chinese. Some of the flowers are hand painted and others are raised, like they've been piped on in very thick glaze. The flowers are quite pretty. Can you tell me anything about them?
They belonged to my great grandmother, who died in the early 1960s. Other than that, I have no information.
Thank you for submitting your item for appraisal and a happy New Year. This appears to be a pair of Satsuma Kyotoware vase, decorated with Chrysanthemum flowers in a rocaille reserve and a meander or running dog band on the shoulder, marked at the base with numbers (?) and "right". The numbers usually refer to the number of vases belonging to one set and where whithin the row the vases should be placed, e.g. left or right. The vases were made around 1900 in the Kyoto area and are often referred to as "temple vases" which is just a name used in the trade. The estimate is based on similar pairs actually sold at auction. There is no measurement for the sentimental value you might attach to it.
