Hi Nadja,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
Paquita was an illustrated magazine published in Argentina, known for being one of the earliest publications aimed at a female readership. It was founded in 1864 by the writer and editor Eduarda Mansilla, a prominent figure in Argentine literature and journalism. The magazine combined fiction, poetry, and essays with illustrations, covering topics such as fashion, culture, education, and women's issues.
At a time when women's roles in society were largely confined to the domestic sphere, Paquita played a significant role in fostering intellectual engagement among Argentine women. It offered a platform for female writers and intellectuals to express their views and engage in discussions about literature, gender, and politics.
Paquita stands out in history for promoting women's literacy and cultural involvement during an era when such opportunities were limited. It helped pave the way for later feminist publications in Latin America.
Vintage copies of Paquita are out there in limited number. Those that have sold at auction in the past typically sell between $15 and $25 each
