African Art: This folk art canvas painting is from the Congo in the late 1960s or early 1970s. The painting is a colorful scene of people with various types of produce possibly at a marketplace. The painting is on stretch canvas with a black wood frame. The painting measures 25" tall, 47" wide and 1.5" deep.
This was part of my mother's estate. She obtained this painting from a military friend that was stationed in the Congo and brought it back for her in the late 1960s or early 1970s.

The presented object appears to be a painting made in oil or acrylic paint on canvas with the measurements of 25" x 47". The painting depicts a market scene with many people with food s and other products. The painting is signed with a signature which is difficult to read. A possible reading could be N Jaqagwes. Sadly no further information regarding the biography of this artist is mentioned in reference books or similar databases. This painting was made in the second half of the 20th century.
This piece is in good condition and there are no serious damages visible.
An estimation would be between 100 to 200 USD.
