Hello Michelle,
I’m very glad that you chose Mearto for your online appraisal,
Considering the photographs, overall pattern, knot density and the colours, I concluded that this is an Entirely Hand Knotted Persian Hamadan Rug, dating back to the period between 1950-1970. The piece is decorated florally and geometrically at the same time. The Hamadan pieces are known for their characteristic colours and motifs. Almost all Hamadan pieces are decorated with a central design, which means the piece has a central medallion. This central medallion is rarely in a "Chest" shape, which is roughly a outer central medallion to the rotated Turquoise square-like shape. Normally most of the pieces are just decorated with a square-like shape. Piece is quite rare in this aspect. The piece also has two symmetrical lanterns hanging from both sides of the central medallion. The piece has four floral bouquet motifs on it, first two is located on upper part while te other two is placed on the lower part of the rug. Central base colour was a light red, while for the borders white was used as base colour. There are four border stripes, one is the main border and is decorated geometrically, the two others surrounding the main border are decorated florally. There is an additional very thin border towards the inner decoration. Piece is knotted Wool on Cotton. The pieceis in good condition with small signes of use and age.
