Considering the photographs, overall pattern, knot density and the colours, I concluded that this is an Entirely Hand Knotted Persian Hamadan Rug, dating back to the period between 1970-1980. Hamadan Rug is an umbrella term used for the semi-tribal rugs with specific patterns and usually does not refer to a certain production place in Iran. It can be knotted all across Iran by Persian weavers. The pattern we mostly observe on your piece is the "Herati" pattern. This pattern is one of the two pattern that creates the term of Hamadan. This pattern is characterized by the rotated squares with a floral motif around and in the center of it. This decor is visible on your piece's central decoration too. Hamadan pieces are always have a central decoration, therefore a central medallion. Although the medallion might adopt different shapes it's very common to be a Herati. The pile of your piece appears to be Cotton while the warp is wool. Wool on Cotton. The knot density is average for semi-tribal rugs but low in general. Due to low knot density of this piece we observe a muddy look in the renderings of the motifs. Generally in good condition without visible faults.
