What does this mean?

Hello Aaron,

I’m very glad that you chose Mearto for your online appraisal,

Considering the photographs, overall pattern, knot density and the colours, I concluded that this is an Entirely Hand Knotted Persian Sarouk Rug. The piece likely dates back to the period from 1920 to 1950. The piece is florally decorated with a classical Sarouk type flowers, branches and leaves. The piece is also centrally decorated which means it has a central medallion. The medallion is styled as a single smaller flower but it was heavily decorated by it's surroundings. As usual to Sarouk pieces, this piece's floral motifs are very symmetrical. The piece's borders are also very elegantly decorated on a dark blue base. There are four smaller borders to enrich the decoration of the main border. The central area is decorated on a red base. The piece was obviously used a continuously through the years since we can visibly detect ware and faded areas due to sun exposure and physical damages. The knot density of the piece appears to be average for a Sarouk from this piece. Therefore the motifs are clearly rendered also with the effect caused by the warn off pile. The piece is knotted wool on cotton. Boteh styled leaves and flowers are visible on the central decoration. On the borders, there are duplicated patterns of flowers surruonded by leaves from both sides. The piece is in fair condition with signes of age and use due to sun exposure and heavy traffic on it.

Entirely hand knotted.

Dimensions: 16 Feet by 10.5 Feet

Condition: The piece is in fair condition with signes of age and use due to sun exposure and heavy traffic on it.

Provenance: Previously belonged to the current owner's uncle, who was an antique dealer.

Heavily decorated by traditional Sarouk patterns.

1500-2000$.
