Hello David,
I’m very glad that you chose Mearto for your online appraisal,
Considering the photographs, overall pattern, knot density and the colours, I concluded that this is an Entirely Hand Knotted Persian Style Kerman Rug. The piece dates back to the period from 1980 to 2000. The piece can be categorised as a contemporary Kerman Rug with a central medallion. The piece is therefore centrally decorated. The central decoration's inner medallion is shaped as a classicak Kerman medallion and that is the most important element that helps us identify the piece. The piece's decoration is entirely floral. The central area is decorated on a bright red base while the borders were decorated on a black base. The colour palette of the piece is not very harmonic which is unlike traditional Persian Rugs. The rug's colour palette is closer to Indian Made reproductions. Indian origin is the strong possiblity on this piece. The knot density of the piece is high which is measured as 210 KPSI but the motifs are rendered somewhat muddy still. This could be due to the thickness of the pile as well as the wrong scaling of the motifs. The piece is knotted wool on cotton. The piece is in good condition without any significant visible problems other than signes of use and age.
Entirely hand knotted.
