An unusual full tang Pesh Kabz type recurved dagger of substantial construction with thick armour piercing diamond tip, steel bolsters and horn grip slabs. In excellent condition. Complete with velvet over wood scabbard.
Dated to the late 19th century, and originated from Afghanistan/Pakistan. I purchased the item from a dealer
Dear Kavinder,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
The presented object appears to be an Indo-Persian pesh-kabz dagger with a total length of 12 inches. The steel blade is curved and thickened at the tip because this dagger was used as a trusting weapon against mail armor. The blade of this pesh-kabz is profiled on the back of the blade and not decorated with inlay work or similar techniques. The grip slabs are made out of horn. The scabbard is covered with black-spotted red velvet fabric. The restrained design is a hint for localization in the North of the Indo-Persian cultural area. It was probably made in the 19th century.
This piece is in good condition and there is no serious damage visible in the images provided.
A fair market estimation would be between 250 to 500 USD.
This estimate is based on actual recent past recorded auction sales of comparable items. Retail "asking prices" can be higher and may vary.
With kind regards,
Georg
