The appraised work appears to be a lithograph (notated as a printer's proof) executed by German artist Peter Max (b. 1937) in 1980. The print depicts a semi-nude figure with a stylized sunrise in the background. Max is well known for his rainbow-hued artworks, and typically employs painterly strokes. He was born in Berlin but lived in China, Israel, and Paris before settling in New York. Max studied at the Arts Students League and in addition to his fine art practice, he has also collaborated with corporate brands including 7-UP and Chrysler. The estimate provided is based on comparables recently offered and sold at auction. The appraised work's approximated size (based on photographs), composition, medium and condition (also based on images provided), as well as the artist's current auction market were taken into consideration when determining the estimate. In many cases, pricing for similar examples available on the primary (retail) market vary, and are often higher than secondary (auction) market examples.
Was the print offered at auction or through a gallery or dealer? The estimate provided above was based on auction comparables, which tend to be lower than primary, or retail examples. Max's auction market for prints, from the 1980s in particular, is inconsistent overall, with multiple prints failing to sell or selling below their presale estimate, which was considered for the above appraisal.
I found the same print valued around $6000 numbered where mine says PP has 2 signatures and a stamp in the lower left
