Portrait painted by William Blood 24x36 inches. Was told it is very old, does have some damage
Unknown, in the family for decades
Dear Paulo,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
The presented object appears to be a painting made in oil paint on canvas with the measurements of 36 x 24 inches. The painting depicts Percival of Galles or Gales. He is depicted in armor and with an elaborated great helm and titled with a banner. In the background, we see and medieval castle. Percival of Galles is a figurine from an Arthurian verse romance from the 14th century (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sir_Perceval_of_Galles). The painting was made in the 1930s or 1940s and is signed on the reverse side by William Blood. Sadly no further information regarding the biography of this artist is mentioned in reference books or similar databases.
Works by this artist were recently offered and sold on the international auction market.
This piece is in medium condition and there are damages visible in the images provided.
A fair market estimation would be between 250 to 500 USD.
This estimate is based on actual recent past recorded auction sales of comparable items. Retail "asking prices" can be higher and may vary.
With kind regards,
Georg
