Very old, sharp Belgium metal sword with dried all wood scabbard. Unique artistic design throughout scabbard and hilt. Very sharp surface rusted blade all intact. Basic small studs/nails and twine. 29" overall length, (S U or upside down U) (6 or 9) with 5 pointed star, cross & dots in middle on scabbard tip. Very old fabric and bindings around scabbard. Thin strap has not been checked for possible gold.

This is a Philippines Kalis, noted by its primitive shaped handle, asymmetrical crossguard and wavy steel blade. The Kalis is the larger Filipino iteration of the well-known East Asian Kris dagger. Designed like a sword, it is ideal for hacking and slashing, yet it retained unique features of the Kris, like the wavy blade thought to improve its slashing capacity. But it's not just a weapon — the Kalis is often used in a variety of ceremonies. It is also a symbol of rank, masculinity, and authority.
This is a comparatively old example, probably 18th Century. These come to auction with some frequency; ones in good condition usually sell between $400-600 but this is in fair condition, worth $250-350.

With wrapped rounded handle, asymmetrical cross guard, wavy blade, the straight wood scabbard wrapped with cording and with metal end engraved with a five-point star, initials SU or (lower case N)S
