I am unsure of who or where this rug was manufactured. It appears to be Turkish or Asian. I have tested the material and I believe it to be silk. Knot density is right around 500 KPSI. My biggest concern is on whether this rug is machine manufactured or hand woven. The rug is in fair condition, in need of good cleaning. A quarter inch ink stain near one corner of the rug. (Edit: confirmed that it is made of silk, signature found on the fringe of the rug, unable to identify what it says)
Roughly 10’8” x 8’4”
Hello,
The rug in question appears to be a fine silk piece, possibly from Turkey or another region within Asia, such as Iran (Persia) or India, all of which are renowned for their intricate silk carpets. The design elements, including floral motifs and the overall palette, are reminiscent of Persian Tabriz or Isfahan styles, which were traditionally woven with a high knot density to achieve their refined detail and softness. These rugs are highly prized in the market due to the skill and time required to produce such delicate patterns.
Considering the rug’s knot density, estimated around 500 KPSI, this indicates a fine level of craftsmanship, as higher knot densities often correlate with more detailed designs and higher market value. However, the rug shows signs of age and usage, including an ink stain and wear on the fringe, which are factors that may affect its value. If the signature on the fringe can be identified and tied to a reputable workshop or weaver, it may further enhance the rug’s provenance and value, especially if it aligns with renowned makers in the region
