Statue standing just under 9" tall
Pre Columbian Statue
Hello Camilla,
Thank you again so much for your appraisal inquires with Mearto! I also apologize again for the delay in your appraisals! I will be working to identify as many item as I can today for you. I'd like to preface my appraisals with the usual disclaimer you've seen before - Dating the item would require in-person examination. The estimate provided is based on recent auction estimates and results of similar figures in similar dimensions. Please note that dealer or private prices may vary. Further, estimates are contingent on condition and authenticity.
With that done, here we go. This item appears to be a human effigy. It may have been a vessel, based on the damage to the back of the head. That may have been a spout. The object appears to have similar features to Aztec or Chorotega objects with the open mouth with fangs and outward tongue. The simple round eyes and button nose are also features of the cultures' Pre-Columbian objects.
Hi Sara,
I am just seeing both your appraisal and message from last night along with this one. Thank you for the update! I was going to inquire today to make sure you had received them. I am happy to report that I have uploaded all of the items from my Dad's collection. I look forward to receiving the remaining appraisals and can't thank you enough for all of the work you've done for us. And please don't rush...we are not in a huge hurry. Thanks again!
