Maple, 30β x 17β Circa 1900 It was appraised in 1975 for $600.00
It belonged to my grandmother
Good afternoon, Becky,
Thank you for submitting photographs for appraisal at Mearto.
You have a Queen Anne style maple dressing table in the New England style. I have no reason to doubt that it was made circa 1900.
This was made at a time when the country was enjoying a Colonial Revival; there was great interest in that style 10-40 years ago but lately it has fallen out of favor, though there is some evidence of it beginning to make a comeback. Unfortunately, even pieces of furniture that were made in the 18th century are not bringing much more than later reproductions, which is what you have.
The maple has a lovely striping, or 'tigering' as they say in the business. It's a very handsome piece that I think would sell well in a rural auction where this look is still somewhat in vogue.
I hope this information has been useful to you. Please let us know if you have additional questions, and thank you again for using Mearto.
