What does this mean?

Dear Ed,

Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry. So that I may best assist you, can you please give me the dimensions of your painting? Is there any signature as well?

Thanks,

Karine

Hello Karine,
The dimensions are 46" x 34" with frame. This is an oil painting on canvas, believed to be an original, I have no signature visible.

Dear Ed,

Thank you for getting back to me so quickly.

Here is a description along with an estimate of your painting as requested:

Manner of Leopold Carl Muller (Austrian, 1834-1892). This work depicting Queen Elizabeth and Mary Stuart appears to be a study and corresponds to a larger study sold a few years ago on the art market. For your information, please check the following link: http://www.artnet.com/artists/carl-leopold-m%C3%BCller/encuentro-entre-isabel-de-inglaterra-y-mar%C3%AD-aa-C3tByk8x6Li7x9toCLH4g2

It is unsigned, and the dimensions are 34" (h) x 46" (w). It is housed in an intricate carved gilt frame, and the condition looks good overall.

The estimate provided is based on comparables offered and sold at auction in the last five years. The subject work’s size, composition, condition (based on photographs provided) were considered when determining the estimate. In many cases, pricing for similar items available on the primary (retail) market vary and are often higher than secondary (auction) market examples.

Best regards,

Karine
