This is an antique, early 20th century about 1902 - 1905, framed painting on textile from China. This is a fairly large-sized (judging by the image) painting depicting the ceremony and celebration of the return of the Empress Dowager Cixi after the Boxer Rebellion. The images, though annotated later in ballpoint pen mentions this as a return of the court to the Forbidden City, this could also be of them arriving at the Summer palace around 1903. The textile does not appear to be silk, as it is more coarse and the looming or weave work is not tight. Ceremonial images such as these were often created for export to satiate the Western world's need for 'exotic' items from the East and how the 'other side of the world' lived. The framing is not Chinese and likely from Odell's, hence the affixed label on the backside. The estimate is based on actual recent past recorded auction sales of comparables. Retail 'asking prices' can be higher and vary.
