Very pretty detail. Set with violet and amber colored stones. Very crude loop on the back for a chain or pin. Probably purchased in the Midwest. Found in my mother’s things after her passing.
Never exhibited. Probably belonged to my mother’s mother or aunt. They were born around 1900.
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
It is a beautiful vintage pin. Such antique jewellery are being offered at auction on a regular basis.
The circular pin/brooch has a lovely design and shape. This particular style and type was fashionable in the late 19th century and early 20th century. It is made of silver or silverplated material (hard to tell from the photos), the purple stones may either be amethysts or cut glass which was an often used decorative element.
The estimate is based on the pin being silver and with amethysts - if it is silverplated and with cutglass the estimate will be much lower.
It appears to have been worn quite a lot either as a pendant or perhaps as a pin where the needle is broken off. The condition is taken into consideration when appraising items like this
The estimate provided is for a well-advertised specialised online jewellery auction, where I believe the pin has the best chance of realising its fullest potential. However, there is no measurement for the sentimental value you might attach to the lovely pin. Retail "asking prices" can be higher and vary.

Thank you
It could very well be bronze or brass, however this is also what is underneath a silverplated item. So my guess is that it was silverplated and the silver has been rubbed off from use and polishing.

Regarding the metal, if not silver or silver plate, what else would a piece from that time be made of. It is a very consistent bronze color throughout. Thanks.
