It looks like the base has a mechanism for expanding - for leaves, but I can't see that the top is split to accommodate more leaves - is that correct?

The circular top raised on split columnar support, on a quadrupartite scrolled-foot base. With lobed handle marked BROWN LOCK, lock mechanism stamped "PATENTED SEPT 28.1909" with hinge stamped PAT. NOV 7.1904
36 inches high, 54 inches diameter
CONDITION: appears to be in good condition
