Hello Michele,
I’m very glad that you chose Mearto for your online appraisal,
Considering the photographs, overall pattern, knot density and the colours, I concluded that this is an Entirely Hand Knotted Persian Tabriz Rug. The piece dates back to the period from 1960 to 1990. The piece is a small type area rug. The piece is entirely florally decorated and most important outline of the piece can be seen as depicted pomegranates on it. There are two visible medallion on the piece and these sun shaped medallions are decorated with Pomegranates on the "shines" of the sun. The piece is quite very symmetrical, the precision and the details are visible. The piece was knotted wool on cotton. The knot density of the piece is quite high and therefore the motifs of the piece were rendered in high quality and clearly. One of the most important aspects of the piece was that it was signed by the arist. The piece was signed on it's upper midlle area, which suggests that the piece was actually knotted to hang on the wall. On the Persian writing it says “Farshe Hanif”, which translates as "Hanif's Rug". The artist of the piece was named Hanif. The central area of the piece was knotted on a dark brick colour while the main border was knotted on a dark blue base. The piece is i good condition with minimal signes of use and age.
