Sam Colt revolver, has engravings on cylinder of what looks like people in war. Black powder loader under barrel. has 3 digit serial number 434
13 in (330mm) - 7.5 in (190mm) - .38 rimfire/ centerfire
My parents gave me the gun and I did some research and it looks like around the time Samuel Walker put in a order with Sam Colt for 1000 guns. This gun has 3 digit serial number 434.
Dear Bray,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry. My sincere apologies for the delay with the appraisal.
The presented object appears to be a revolver in the style of the early version of the Colt Baby Dragoon. It has an edged trigger guard, squared cylinder stop notches, and a horizontal ramrod support notch. It has the serial number 434 which would fit with the production numbers of the Baby Dragoon but not with the Colt Dragoon. The Colt Walker has a longer cylinder, no ramrod support touch, and round cylinder stop notches. The numbers of the serial number have no seriphs and are a different style. The hallmarks differ also. This could be an early production Baby Dragoon with a later added cylinder.
Comparable objects were recently offered and sold on the international auction market.
This piece is in good condition and no severe damage is visible in the images provided.
A fair market estimation would be between 1.000 to 2.000 USD.
This estimate is based on actual recent past recorded auction sales of comparable items. Retail "asking prices" can be higher and may vary.
With kind regards,
George
