When my cousin was stationed in Japan, he sent these home. The long pne is 38 3/4" and the small one is 25 1/4". The blades have never been sharpened
These have never been exhibited. They came direct from Japan in the 80's when my cousin, who in the airforce, was stationed there
Dear Shelly,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry. My sincere apologies for the delay with the appraisal.
The presented object appears to be a modern set of a katana sword and a wakizashi short sword probably made in China or Japan. The katana has a length of 38 3/4" and the wakizashi has a length of 25 1/4". The blade is decorated with an engraved dragon and is not sharpened. Besides the design, the details of the craftmanship is the fact that the blade is not sharpened a hint that this piece was made for decorative purposes in the second half of the 20th century.
Comparable objects were recently offered and sold on the international auction market.
This piece is in good condition and there is no serious damage visible in the images provided.
A fair market estimation would be between 60 to 120 USD.
This estimate is based on actual recent past recorded auction sales of comparable items. Retail "asking prices" can be higher and may vary.
With kind regards,
George
