Hello Kyle,
I’m very glad that you chose Mearto for your online appraisal,
Considering the photographs, overall pattern, materials and the design, I concluded that this is a Hand Made and Hand Painted Japanese Sword, in Chokuto style. This piece dates back to the period between 1940-1960. It shows similar type of design that was used in the Japanese Army for the period. The tip of the blade shows a different kind of allignement than those of the traditional Katana's and it looks more like the ancient type of Japanese sword which is known as Chokuto. The scabbard of the piece is made of wood and painted in black with metal decoration likely made of iron material. Due to the use of Iron material decoration are rusted. There are no further decoration on the blade or on the scabbard. Guard and the end of the handle are also decorated with iron material. When the blade is inside the scabbard and we can see the sword as a whole it shows a symmetrical image, designed to be so. The piece is in good condition with only rusty areas and small signes of age.
Entirely hand made.
