Hello Kyle,
I’m very glad that you chose Mearto for your online appraisal,
Considering the photographs, overall pattern, materials and the design, I concluded that this is a Hand Made and Hand Painted Japanese Sword, in Katana style. This piece dates back to the period between 1940-1960. It's design is mostly adapted from the army swords but the scabbard in the majority of the army swords was metal and not wooden. There is a serial number of "33310" on the piece but there is no makers marks or factory mark identifiable on the piece. The handle of the piece was wrapped by black coloured fabric, usually seen in army type swords. The metal ornamental details on the scabbard and on the guard are made of low copper percentage bronze. Giltwork of the metal guard is still visible but it was applied with little care, which is an indication that this piece was not originally an Army sword. The blade is made of shiny steel. The wooden and black painted scabbard. Under the guard there is a relief of a symbol of power from the Japanese Mythology and is made on metal. The piece is good condition with minimal signes of use and age
Entirely hand made.
