Description

This appears to be a bronze statue of a scholar riding a horse while reading a scroll. The scroll contains no text. Given the facial features, it seems likely it's meant to represent Confucius.

It was purchased from a Chinese antique store in New Jersey, USA in 1991 or 1992.

What does this mean?

This is a sculpture of a Chinese scholar atop a donkey (based on the animal’s tale, ears and mane).
The piece appears to be cast iron rather than bronze, based on the patina. See the link below for images.
