36" total length, 1 1/8" width blade, blade 31" length. Scabbard is leather. Blade is steel? Says made in India on blade From collection of gentleman who passed away; he had them on dislpay, but nothing else is known.
Unknown except for above; he was an Anglophile, I think.
Dear Andrew,
Thank you for this second look and your patience.
The presented object appears to be an Indian sword with a shamshir-style blade and with a western-style basket hilt how it is common for swords or sabers of cavalry troops. The blade appears to be made out of steel and the basket could be steel or iron. The curvature of the blade is typical for shamshirs from the Persian region. The blade has an etched decor and the remark "Made in India" and was probably made in the 20th century. The sword comes with a leather scabbard.
This piece is in good condition and there is no serious damage visible in the images provided.
A fair market estimation would be between 100 to 250 USD.
This estimate is based on actual recent past recorded auction sales of comparable items. Retail "asking prices" can be higher and may vary.
With kind regards,
Georg
There aren't any numbers, but I closeupped the writing and part of the design, also the grip and basket.
Thank you!
