sculpture of man on horse holding falcon, 30" tall 23" sculpture by P.J.Mene #24 of 100
30" tall , 23" long, 9" wide
Hello, this item is a modern bronze reproduction after Pierre Jules Mene, the nineteenth century French sculptor known for animalier subjects. The piece shows clear signs of being a later casting because of the surface tone, the modern green patina, the softer definition in the horse anatomy, and the inscription style. Mene never produced limited editions numbered out of one hundred, and any numbering of this type indicates a twentieth or twenty first century foundry edition made for decorative purposes. The base and finish also match the type of commercial reproductions sold internationally from the 1970s onward. The subject follows Mene’s well known equestrian and hunting themes, but it is not an original period cast from his workshop.
In the current market these large decorative reproductions have steady demand because of their size and visual impact. Value depends on condition, quality of casting, and scale. At approximately thirty inches high, twenty three inches long, and nine inches wide, this example sits in the higher range for reproductions. Recent sales for comparable large reproductions typically fall between 300 and 700 USD.
