Anchorage, Alaska auction.
Dear Dixie,
Greetings and thank you calling upon the experts at Mearto to evaluate your pair of terracotta Pierrots. Would you please so kind as to upload another image or two of the signature?
Thank you and I look forward to assisting you.
Sincerely,
Erin-Marie
So sorry. Shot.
Dear Dixie,
Greetings, please bear with me as I am still researching who the artist of this pair is. They are finely molded so I expect the artist's information to be available. I'm going to ask for a couple of images of the signature once again. I am hoping by looking at different angles of the signature it becomes more legible.
Most Sincerely,
Erin-Marie
The last letter might be a y. V and K are very clear. Thanks.
What is status?
Is this appraisal active?
Are you still working on my appraisal?
Dear Dixie,
Thank you for the follow-up and I apologize this has taken longer than we usually need. Your busts are really incredible pieces of terracotta ceramic and I am going to tentatively attribute them to Joseph Von Kramer (1841 - 1908). Kramer was a painter, sculptor and ceramic designer. His figurative ceramic designs were produced by Meissen. Additionally, he designed exterior sculptures and plaques in bronze.
When his Meissen pieces come to auction they sell on average between $1800 to $4000USD. If this pair could be definitively placed as being by his had I would tentatively expect to see $4000 - $6000USD. If these are his work and they were done for a world exposition, an important client, or as a study for a public commission, possibly more.
The next step would be to locate books and publications on von Kramer's work and try to find references or better still images relating to this pair. If there is a specific museum who was the repository of his paperwork you could reach out to them for further information, I had had luck with both methods. If I can answer any additional questions, don't hesitate to ask. Again, I apologize for any inconvenience.
Sincerely,
Erin-Marie
I shit signature from each.
