Middle eastern silk carpet 118'' x 66'' purchased in Hong Kong in 1985. Last appraisal in late 1980's was appraised for $36,000.Condition is excellent. The length (118'') includes the fringe of 7" on each end for a total of 14''.

The appraised work appears to be a hand-knotted silk Isfahan rug with polychrome floral medallions on a pink field with shah abbas motifs within three stylized foliate borders and fringe edges. The estimate provided is based on comparables recently offered and sold at auction. The rug's size, complexity, material, condition (based on photographs provided), as well as the overall market for similar rugs was taken into consideration when determining the estimate. In many cases, pricing for similar examples available on the primary (retail) market vary, and are often higher than secondary (auction) market examples.
