What does this mean?

This is a vintage, 20th century, about 1970, framed portrait image of a wizened Indian man who has lived a long life. The image itself, though not inspected or examined by me in person, is stated as being on metal. Most images that are finely etched into the surface of metal are considered 'print plates' which is the medium on which an artist would create the template for multiple prints. Plates would be inked and then pressed into paper to transfer the ink images. This is a likely and possible identification of this picture. Within the print collector market, plates are not high sellers or commodities in comparison to the print on paper. Although unsigned, this is well rendered by someone who was competent at realism. The estimate is based on actual recent past recorded auction sales of comparables. Retail 'asking prices' can be higher and vary.

What is the size of this and please add images of the back side as well as extreme close-ups of the surface to show the texture. Also may I please know why you title this "Skeet's Indian".

Hello, the outside frame is 20 " by 30". The inside frame is 14" by. 10" inches. My brother was robbed and murdered after giving me this picture for my 21 birthday and his name was Skeeter. He collected various items , he was 32. I affectionately named him Skeets Indian.I never got the chance to find out much about it.

Hi Giselle, I am so very sorry to read about your brother's tragedy. My condolences to you and your family. ~Nora

In your initial posting you mention that the medium is a metal. Without inspecting this in person, it is a bit of a challenge to discern this medium by photo. Is the picture on metal and somewhat 'carved' in to the surface? Is it definitely metal or is it a polyresin?

Giselle jones May 16, 04:42 UTC

Sorry I dont much about polyresin. But it is on metal. Smooth to the touch. That has always been what makes it different , to me.

Thank you for responding so quickly. While watching T.V. one evening I saw my art hanging in the O.A. Gallery. The channel was p.b.s. but i wasn't able to get more information about the art itself. They were identical.

What you saw was likely a print produced from this plate
