The story behind Sleeping Beauty originated in several early versions in French, Italian, German and Russian stories but in 1959, Walt Disney made it into one of the most visually distinctive animated films ever produced. It was re-released in 1999 on its 40th anniversary.
Mary Costa is an American soprano and actress best known as the original voice of Princess Aurora in Disney’s Sleeping Beauty. At just 22 years of age, she provided the speaking and singing voice for Princess Aurora (also called Briar Rose). Her classical soprano training influenced the character’s vocal style.
Other Sleeping Beauty 40th anniversary lithographs signed by Mary Costa have sold at auction for the fair market (secondary market) values ranging from between $200 and $300, though retailers typically prices ones they have for sale at higher retail prices, around $400.
