Its a very small coin that has an Indian head with a date of 1889 on one side and the other side says California Gold and 1/2. Its in fairly good condition.
Approximately 1/2 inch in diameter. Round.
My in-laws were collectors of coins and other collectables. When they passed they gave the collection to me.
Hi Marty,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
Coin values can range quite broadly depending on their grade, which is something that requires in-person evaluation by a specialized coin grader. Mearto doesn't provide that (additional) service but what I can give you is a broad range of what this coin might be worth (pending grading) and let you decide if its worth the expense of getting it valued. It's also a question of authenticity - look at this website: https://coinquest.com/cgi-bin/cq/coins.pl?coin=1604
Based on the photos and information provided, and subject to examination, this is:
An 1889 California gold half-dollar coin
With Indian head and 13 stars on one side, walking bear on the back
1/2 inch diameter
CONDITION: pending grading but appears to be in generally good condition
PROVENANCE: inherited
$150-2,000+ pending grading*
*represents a fair-market value for auction purposes; retail or asking price may vary.
Please let us know if you have additional items to appraise, and thank you again for using Mearto.
